So.. this is our inaugural ‘blog’ and after the amazing weather we enjoyed here in North Norfolk last week, followed by VE Day celebrations, local rugby club wins and village dog shows over the recent Bank Holiday weekend, at Totally Norfolk HQ we are excited for the month ahead!
May is always such a lovely time of the year, we really enjoy this season of transition, as the weather starts to warm up and nature is in full bloom.
Events which we are looking forward to this month include The Folk on the Pier Show which is taking place in Cromer this coming weekend (9-11 May), this is supposedly the “ best gig on the North Sea” and well worth dipping into!
The Pavillion Theatre on Cromer Pier will host eighteen acoustic roots and electric folk-rock acts over three days. There will also be various events taking place around the town. Further details and info can be found at:
We have two very well equipped holiday lets, Calm and Beachway, which are particularly close to the pier if you’re planning a visit. Regrettably they are booked up this weekend, however, if you’re planning to attend Folk on the Pier in 2026, check them out, as they are currently available and only a stone’s throw away from Cromer Pier.
Another event taking place in Cromer this month is the Crab and Lobster Festival, from 16-18 May, where you’ll find stalls, cookery demonstrations, exhibitions, coastal crafts, crab dressing competitions, live music and other forms of entertainment taking place in various venues across Cromer. For further details please refer to the following website, www.cromercrabandlobsterfestival.co.uk.
If you fancy a weekend at the in the Gem of the North Norfolk Coast (aka Cromer) over the Crab and Lobster Festival weekend, do get in touch. We currently have availability at Beachway and Calm in Cromer (both of which are one bedroom apartments, sleeping up to 3), Buckenham Cottage (a three bedroom house which sleeps 6) and Hidden Hideout, a two bedroom cottage which sleeps up to 4.
Details for Buckenham Cottage can be found here
Coincidentally, Buckenham Cottage also happens to be for sale, if you would like more details please do contact us. This charming terraced house would make a super bolthole near the sea and it could also be a lovely family home, or an ideal first time purchase.
For further details on Hidden Hideout please click here.
Other things we are excited about … the swans at our ‘Charming waterside retreat’ also known as ‘River View’ in the village of Gimingham, have been nesting away and their signets are due imminently.
River View in Gimingham is such a peaceful and lovely setting to relax the time away in and, due to a cancellation, we actually have availability between 9-18 May, so if you fancy a break, again, please do get in touch. We have an amazing rate on offer for a 7 night stay. Give us a call and we can discuss with you.
You’ll have access to the lake, you’ll be able to enjoy nature, take in the local wildlife and borrow a paddle board if you wish! There are some good pubs nearby too, a ‘secret’ beach and a new coffee and tapas style bar in the next village, so if you are keen, and after some ideas of things to do and places to go to, please do get in touch … At Totally Norfolk we are always on the look out and we have plenty of ideas and suggestions to help make your time in Norfolk a really good one.
Further details for the Charming waterside Retreat in Gimingham can be found on Air b n b. This one is a ‘guest favourite’ and has been rated one of the most loved homes on Air b n b, according to guests.
For those who love all things vintage, the Little Vintage Lover Fair will be taking place on the Mannington Estate on Sunday 11 May, where you’ll be able to browse over 50 stands packed with retro fashion, accessories and décor and tuck into street food. You’ll also find classic vehicles on display. According to Homes and Antiques Magazine, this is “one of the original and best fairs”! LITTLE VINTAGE LOVER FAIR
Speaking of classic cars, the Sandringham Pageant of Motoring returns to the Sandringham Estate on Sunday 25 May, where over 100 classic cars will be on display alongside royal vehicles which are rarely seen in public. Here in Norfolk we are surrounded by so many amazing offerings in terms of local produce, meat and seafood, I have always been slightly surprised that there aren’t more delightful farm shops with local produce on offer (close to where I personally live) .. With this in mind, we are so pleased to hear that The Fat Cow in Fakenham have been granted planning permission to open up a farm shop … we are looking forward to checking it out in due course.
And on that note, if you’re after a burger, some soft serve ice cream (or a local beer) on your adventures around North Norfolk, the Fat Cow is definitely worth checking out.
Set in a wild flower meadow, an ideal space for kids to run around, it serves brilliant smash burgers – local beef, grass fed and dry aged. Fat Cow (@fatcow.burgers) • Instagram photos and videos
Talking of farm shops and local produce… one last thing before I sign off, we’re also looking forward to the Farmers Market at Black Barn Farm in Salhouse (which is close to Norwich), this Saturday.
The Farmers Market takes place here on the second Saturday of the month, 10am – 1pm. Pop into the Salhouse Café while you’re there and have a coffee or tuck into some breakfast. Well worth a visit, in our humble opinion!
Totally Norfolk holiday lets are starting to book up, so if you are keen to come and sample some of the delights on offer in this neck of the woods, have a browse on our website and please do get in touch. We would love to assist you and help you plan your holiday in North Norfolk.
